This post is dedicated to the concept of creating your own baby onesies for your children. There are advantages and disadvantages to making your own onesies: the other option being to just buy ones that other people have made.

Important Side note: when we say making your own onesie, we’re not talking about actually sewing the onesie yourself, we’re talking about going to a user-friendly website where all you have to do is upload the picture and type in what you want.

If you want to try making a onesie for fun we suggest following this link to makeaonesie.com. This is the best and easiest web page we have found for making baby onesies. (This is a great link to follow if you are wanting an “I’d rather be naked” onesie). One your at the web page simply type in “I’d rather be naked” and then you can choose the text color/style and even put a picture if you want!

One of the benefits of making a baby onesie yourself is that you can put your own funny sayings on the onesie. If you are looking for some funny sayings to spark your brain cells, might I recommend these funny baby onesies sayings.

Another benefit of making your own baby onesies is that you can put pictures on them. I have a picture of my Mom and Dad on my baby boy’s onesie and my parents absolutely love me for it! I highly recommend this.

A disadvantage of making your own onesie is that it can take a little bit more time and energy. Sometimes it is nice to see a onesie that someone else has made and not have to use your own creative juices.

Let us know what your opinion is on making your own onesies.

In order to make this web page more useful for my readers, I’ve decided to do the most difficult task in the world: Go Shopping! To say the least, my husband wasn’t too happy when he realized that I would have to go shopping to fulfill my blogging duties. After hours of hard work, I’ve compiled the following list of best places to shop for baby onesies clothing.

MakeaOnesie.com

Price: Starting at $12.99

Shipping is less expensive than most other online baby stores: $3.00 for the first onesie with an additional $.50 for each additional onesie. Checkout is made easy with the options of using google checkout or paypal.

Baby Onesie Quality: Extraordinary

Web Page: Extremely user friendly.

The Scoop: Makeaonesie.com’s big selling point is that they allow you to create your own onesies. I must admit I was a little skeptical about how hard this process would be (I didn’t want to spend all day creating a baby onesie that probably wouldn’t turn out that great anyway). As mentioned above, this friendly web page made it extremely easy to design your own onesie. I was able to get a picture of my husband on the onesie along with the words “Nate’s Little Buckaroo” in about 30 seconds. The web page automatically resizes your picture which was a huge relief to me because I didn’t want to have to go through the burden of doing so myself. It also lets you type in the text that you want on the onesie and instantly shows you how it will look - too fun!

MamaMonkey.com

Price: Starting at $12.00 Shipping is a flat $5.00 You have to register with mamamonkey in order to buy their baby onesies.

Baby Onesie Quality: Above Average

Web Page: A cute pink color and user-friendly, though I still can’t decide if I like their slogan: “Hip Handcrafted Goods for You and Your Monkeys.”

The Scoop: Mamamonkey is on this list because of their funny baby onesies. The site has a nice layout as well, and you can easily select the size of your onesie (a feature that unfortunately not all websites have). Mamamonkey has quality baby onesies and a larger than average selection. The downside of buying with mamamonkey is that you must register with their site. I get tired of registering with all of these different websites. But overall mamamonkey.com is a great place to buy baby onesies.

CottonBabyOnesies.com

Price: Starting at $16.00 Shipping is a flat 6.99.

Baby Onesies Quality: Extraordinary

Web Page: Adorable and easy to use.

The Scoop: Cottonbabyonesies.com is the best place to buy upper-end baby onesies. The onesies are very well made and are capable of taking a beating. They have the traditional cute onesies that we are all looking for, but they also have their share of funny sayings. If money is not an issue, then cottonbabyonesies.com comes highly recommended.

Have you found other great places to buy baby onesies online? Please leave a comment below.

Some of you want to know whether baby onesies are a good gift for baby showers. Well we here at baby onesies 1 wanted to give you our humble opinion on the matter. Basically, there are two trains of thought: (1) baby onesies are a timeless gift that will always be a great present and (2) while baby onesies are a great gift, they should be supplemented by something else.

We here tend to agree with the first train of thought due to the numerous benefits of baby onesies . They allow the diaper changer easy access to that favorite region of the body, making it easier to change the diaper. They stay in one place as the baby wiggles all over, and they can be used for multiple purposes (just as a shirt or as an entire outfit for the day). Perhaps the best reason to give baby onesies as a gift is that they are relatively inexpensive.

The fact that baby onesies are relatively inexpensive leads us to the second train of thought. I’ve found baby onesies that only cost $6.99 at some stores such as Wal-Mart. Many gift givers feel that this is not enough money to spend on a gift and so baby onesies should be supplemented with some sort of other gift. I’m not telling you to be stingy, but a gift is a gift, if you want it to be something special then money won’t make the difference, but time will. Spend some time writing the person a letter or make them something that you had to do yourself. Money doesn’t make a gift special!

Do you think giving a person a baby onesie is enough? Feel free to comment below.

While baby onesies are terrific, they do lack one aspect that other baby clothes can provide: gloves. Normally baby onesies only partially cover the arms of your baby and don’t cover the hands at all. Why is this a problem you ask? For some unknown reason, babies love to scratch themselves, a lot.

Not all babies will be born with long fingernails which may prevent this scratching problem; my son was not so fortunate. From the minute he came out of the womb, he was scratching himself on the face (really hard to watch). Babies’ hands are inexplicably drawn towards their faces, one of the many discoveries I’ve learned about babies. As you can see in this photo, my baby boy is trying to scratch his face; however, the gloves that are built on to his baby clothes are not allowing him to do so. I’ve yet to run into any baby onesies that come with this feature, if you find any then please let me know where in the comment box found below.

Some may say that not having hand protection is a weakness of baby onesies. While I agree with this sentiment, it is also important to note that this problem can be easily resolved by buying baby gloves. Feel free to post good locations to buy baby gloves in the comment box below.

The baby “Onesie” is actually a name given to the baby bodysuit, creeper, snapsuit, or diaper shirt by Gerber Childrensware, Inc. Over time the term has basically become standard American English, much as “Kleenex” is now the norm instead of “facial tissue”. Baby onesies have really been around for quite awhile, in some form or another, effectively rendering them a tried-and-tested option for your baby. Fortunately, all this trying and testing by mothers for a hundred years, coupled with technological advances, has brought about many spiffy improvements over what your great-grandma wore.

The 1920s-style romper is the ancestor of the baby onesie as we know it, though in the 20s, most babies (even the boys) were still sporting the dress-style of clothing, probably for ease. Although the snaps that make onesies so convenient were invented in 1885, it was by a German inventor named Heribert Bauer and they weren’t quite the type we know today. Thus, this onesie uses buttons and what appears to be very scratchy material, rather than the snaps and soft cotton models we get to dress our babies in now.

By the 1950s we had our beloved snaps on the baby onesies, plus a little color. The fit wasn’t quite the same, but chances are good that babies of the day didn’t notice or care, though their mothers really should have noticed the granny-panty (predecessor of the “Steve Urkel”) look of it. Chances are also good that they didn’t have nearly as many to choose from, as these onesies were made more intricately and thus were more expensive (relatively speaking… after all, we’re talking about a time when gas was $.27 per gallon). 

And currently we havebthe final product, the pièce de résistance of baby onesies, the stylish, comfortable, convenient conglomeration of the past 100 years or so of trial and error in the baby clothing world. It just makes the spine tingle blissfully to think about.

I know you have all seen them, those awesome baby onesies with funny sayings on them. I’m not opposed to the traditional “Momma’s Girl” or “Daddy’s Boy” onesies, but I absolutely love the baby onesies with amusing sayings. Without further adieu, here are my top ten baby onesies’ sayings. If you have found other funny baby onesies’ sayings then please leave them in the comment box:

*** You can put any of these funny sayings on a onesie by visiting makeaonesie.com. Just type in the saying and voila! ***

#10 For baby boys: “Got Boobs?” Playing off the “Got Milk?” slogan. You have to admit it’s a little bit funny, immature, but funny.

#9 For baby boys: “Lock Up Your Daughters” Imagine your cute little baby boy wearing one of these baby onesies. Most fathers will like this—it gives them some manly-man feelings, and mothers like to think their baby is cute, so, win win.

#8 For boys and girls: “No Mistletoe Needed.”This one might take some thought. Let’s admit it, babies get kissed more than we would like sometimes.

#7 For boys and girls: “Instructions not included.” Wouldn’t it be great if babies came with instructions? “If baby starts to misbehave, push the button on the back. If this doesn’t work, contact the manufacturer.” I guess prayer never hurts.

#6 For boys and girls: “Noone sleeps until I’m ready!” The truth hurts.

#5 For boys and girls: “Meet the boss.” What’s good is that your new boss is cute. What’s bad is that you have to change your new boss’s diapers. Please don’t tell me you already do that with your current boss.

#4 For boys and girls: “Spoiled Rotten (my diaper that is.) Baby’s diapers can stink at times.

#3 For boys and girls: “Arrrr (picture of pirate) watch me booty.” Where do people come up with these?

#2 For boys and girls: “I’d rather be naked.” This is a classic baby onesies’ saying.

#1 For boys and girls: “Who you calling poopy?”

There you have it, the top 10 funniest sayings for baby onesies. Think there are funnier sayings out there for baby onesies? Submit your funny baby onesies sayings in the comment box below.

Ever wondered why expecting mothers’ most popular gift is a baby onesie? The truth is that baby onesies provide several comforts to mothers that traditional baby clothes do not. Here are five practical benefits baby onesies provide.

#1 - Inexpensive
I’ve seen some awesome baby onesies for only $7 at stores like Wal-Mart and Target. I’d like to see you buy an entire outfit for $7.

#2 Diaper Access
If you are an expecting Mom, you’re probably not that excited about all of those diapers that await you (I know I wasn’t). Changing diapers can be hard work (especially if somehow the baby pooped out of his diaper while you were holding him or her), baby onesies make changing diapers a little easier because you can unsnap the baby clothing instead of having to take the clothes off every time you change the diaper.

#3 - The Onesie Doesn’t Move All Over
Babies wiggle a lot and they can easily become agitated if their clothes are moving all over the place (having an agitated baby is not good). Normal clothing does tend to move around a lot more than baby onesies do.

#4 - Cute
Babies look extremely cute in baby onesies. The funny sayings on the onesies make your baby look even cuter.

#5 - Multiple Uses
Baby onesies can simply act as a shirt on your baby by putting pants over the baby onesie. Or the baby can wear the onesie by itself and still be just fine. Multi-use clothing comes in handy when it comes to babies.

Hope you enjoyed the article and feel free to comment below.

Gone are the days of exclusively plain white baby onesies. Now the baby onesie is a must-have in every baby wardrobe, not just for convenience, but for style. Baby can wear different colors, sayings, and pictures without you having to deal with both a shirt and a onesie (which was often formerly used as an undershirt only). And the great news is that baby can’t read yet, so he won’t object when you make him don that “I’d Rather Be Naked” onesie (while it may still be true when he’s 10, chances are he won’t approve). You can even get polo onesies, which add a little class to baby’s wardrobe.

Of course, we have the regular baby onesie with either short or long sleeves in a variety of colors and prints. The regular onesie is pulled over baby’s head and generally has three snaps at the bottom to keep it in place. The regular onesie is by far the most common, thus making it easiest to find and generally the cheapest.

The kimono baby onesie (also referred to as “side snap onesie”) is a great option because mom doesn’t have to pull anything over baby’s head – which makes both involved parties happy, especially at first when baby’s neck isn’t very strong and mom isn’t as practiced with baby-dressing. With a kimono baby onesie, you simply place the baby in the onesie, wrap it around him and fasten in place, thus avoiding the awkward over-the-head yanking. Plus, the kimono baby onesie offers a unique look over the regular onesie, and comes in some ever-so-cute varieties.

Another great yank-decreasing alternative is the baby onesie with two snaps near the neck. While this doesn’t entirely eliminate the over-the-head pulling, it does make it significantly easier. If baby has a larger than average head (bless your soul for giving him birth), these onesies make a fantastic choice.
Snap extenders are also available for your sumo-legs little one, or if junior hits a growth spurt and suddenly gets taller than his onesie. These extenders snap to either side of the bottom three snaps on baby’s onesie, increasing the length, leg room, and overall life of the onesie.

So whether ease or style is your main concern, the baby onesie has just what you’re looking for.
